Shorter Trading Hours in Bursa Malaysia and Today Business News
Posted By Webmaster on August 15th, 2008
Pro Trade Shares has been following the called to the Bursa and Securities Commission to reduce the trading period. Today, 15 August 2008, the trading period of Bursa is the same as Singapore which is from 9.00am to 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 5.00pm. A few years ago, Bursa trading period was shorter and also the same as Singapore Exchange which was from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 4.30pm but when Singapore Exchange changed theirs, we followed. The reason was to reduce the contango trading being done at the now closed ‘CLOB’. Malaysian stocks/shares previously were traded simultanously in Malaysia and in CLOB Singapore. This allow people to make some huge profit due to the price difference or different price movement of the two exchanges. But it also created many issue of short selling. After the 1997 financial crisis, Malaysian government decided to end CLOB.
Many other Asian exchanges traded shorter hours but has much more volume than Bursa. Maybe the knowledge that the trading hours are shorter will encourage better trading volume.
The latest business news snynopsis that Pro Trade Shares think might affect the stock or share prices in Bursa Malaysia today. The Bursa Composite Index (KLCI) has been dropping everyday.
