Berjaya Corp Bhd’s net profit fell 64.13% to RM64.43 million for the third-quarter ended January 31, 2009 compared to the same period a year ago.
The company said in its report that pre-tax profit tumbled 43% to RM117 million on revenue that more than doubled to RM1.73 billion for the quarter.
It added that the third-quarter pre-tax profit was lower because of the previous year’s corresponding quarter having significant non-recurring items totalling a gain of RM194.5 million.
It said part of the gain came from the disposal of KL Plaza, from which the company gained RM140.1 million.

Proton Holdings Bhd said it expects revenue of RM2 billion over five years from its deal with Detroit Electric Holdings Ltd, a maker of electric cars.
It said the revenue would be derived from sales of 40,000 units of Gen2 and Persona models to be sold to the US and UK markets.
On another note, Detroit Electric said it has secured funding to buy the vehicles that would be fitted with its electric motor.
Detroit Electric, incorporated in Hong Kong, is primarily involved in research and development, engineering, manufacturing, assembling and selling of electric and electric hybrid vehicles and related products.

MALAYSIA’S Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is to meet with the country’s king on April 2 to tender his resignation, he said in a speech today.
Abdullah is set to hand over power to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak but no firm date had been set.
The prime minister was speaking at the annual meeting of the United Malays National Organisation, the lynchpin of the coalition that has ruled Malaysia for 51 years, after he handed over the party presidency to Najib. – Reuters
