Pro Trade Shares received the following news from Bank Negara:

Bank Negara will issue Bon Simpanan Merdeka totalling RM2bil in two series to Malaysians aged 56 year above.

The central bank said on Wednesday the first series of the bonds amounting to RM1bil would be on sale from Feb 18 to March 17. The second series of bonds totalling RM1bil would be from May 4 to June 3.

“The bond, which has a three-year tenure, offers a return of 5% per annum and provides the flexibility for early redemption before the maturity date,” it said.

Bank Negara said the bond, which would be scripless and based on Shariah principles, was an additional savings instrument for Malaysian citizens who are 56 years and above.

The bond would also be offered to Malaysian citizens who are retired on medical grounds regardless of age.

It said the minimum investment was RM1,000 and the maximum amount at RM50,000 per investor. This limit applied to aggregate holdings per investor for the two series of Bon Simpanan Merdeka issued in 2009.

The bonds can be subscribed at all commercial banks, including Islamic banks, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd, Bank Simpanan Nasional and Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd.

The allocation of Bon Simpanan Merdeka 01/2009 is based on first come first serve basis. Successful applicants would be notified by their agent banks.

Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd has rejected Techventure Bhd’s appeal against the decision to de-list the company’s securities.

“Accordingly, the securities of TechVen will be removed from the official list of Bursa Securities on Feb 10,” it said on Wednesday.

Bursa Securities said following the delisting of TechVen, the company would continue to exist but as unlisted entities.

It said the company was still able to continue its operations and business and proceed with its corporate restructuring and the shareholders could still be rewarded by the company’s performance.

However, the shareholders will be holding shares which were no longer quoted and traded on Bursa Securities.

Alternatively, shareholders intending to hold their securities in the form of physical certificates could withdraw these securities from their Central Depository System (CDS) accounts with Bursa Depository, at anytime after the securities of the company are de-listed.
