Bursa Chief Information Officer Resigned

It was reported that Yew Kim Keong, Bursa’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) has resigned.

Yew was reported to have resigned on his own accord following a system wide technical failure in Bursa’s Equity Trading system that caused a full day without trading on 3 July 2008.

His resignation will take effect from 31 July 2008.

Bursa’s Head of IT Development and Services, Ang Ting Kang, has been appointed acting CIO.

Will there be more ?

One question should be ask is why did Bursa’s Disaster Recovery System failed eventhough Bursa hold 4 testing annually. Could it be that Bursa’s  Business Continuity Plan was not complete?

Could it be that when Bursa hold Disaster Recovery exercise, Bursa did recovery for all system (example: equity and futures) and not on recovering only one system?

All these questions will only be known to Bursa.

BURSA MALAYSIA – Major Direct Business Deal Done

Pro Trade Shares noted the following major direct business deal done on 21 April 2008 that exceed 5% of the company listed shares.

Ladang Perbadanan-Fima Berhad, short name FIMA and short code 5851, that is listed in the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia under Plantation Sector changed hand for 36.5 million shares of its shareholdings which represent 31.9% TODAY ! That is a major changed of its shareholders. Since February 2008 it traded with a low of RM3.68 to a high of RM4.14. FIMA closed today at its high of RM4.14. So far there is no announcement on who sold and who bought the shares. We will only know tomorrow when the company make the announcement to Bursa.

The other company, Equine Capital Bhd (EQUINE / 1147) also listed in the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia under the Property sector has 15.8 million shares changed hand in a direct business deal today which represents 8.2% of the total issued shares. EQUINE traded between a low of RM0.745 and a high of RM2.115 since February 2008. It closed today at RM0.795. Again no news on the seller and buyer today.

A Mesdaq counter, ETI Tech Corporation Bhd (ETITECH / 0118), had a direct business deal today for 11.3 million shares (5% of total shares issued). There were two direct business deals on Friday, 18 April 2008, to bring the total direct business deal after today to 33.9 million shares that has changed hand which represents 14.9% of the total share issued. It was announced on 18 April 2008 that two of its major shareholders sold 5% each, Dennis Chuah and Dato’ Ch’ng Kong San. No announcement on today’s direct deal. Dennis Chuah is the Executive Director while Dato’ Ch’ng is the Non Independent Non Executive Chairman. In the company 2007 annual report, Dennis Chuah holds 43,946,374 shares (19.37%) and Dato’ Ch’ng had 24,219,500 shares (10.67%).
