New directors for Star Publications

Star Publications (M) Bhd has appointed Kuah Hun Liang as non-executive chairman and two others as directors of the company.
In statements to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the company said Kuah would join the board as an independent director together with Lee Siang Chin, while Datuk Vincent Lee Fook Long would join the board as non-independent director.
Kuah Hun Liang
Kuah, 48 has more than 23 years of experience in the financial markets, having started his banking career in Public Bank Bhd in 1983.
He holds an honours degree in applied economics from University of East London and is currently an independent non-executive director of Loh & Loh Corp Bhd and Rexit Bhd.
Kuah was also the former chief executive officer and managing director of Deutsche Bank (M) Bhd and former board member and treasurer of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce.
Vincent, 56, the founder of Naga DDB Sdn Bhd – the largest advertising and communications agency in Malaysia under the umbrella of Foetus International, is regarded as one of the best brand builders in the country.

He holds a degree in mass communications from the Institute of Marketing, London, and is also the president of Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Malaysia (4A’s).
Vincent also sits on the board of numerous associations and organisations including as chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulation.
Siang Chin, 61 meanwhile is an independent non-executive director of several organisations including Value Partners Group Ltd, Hong Kong; AmFutures Sdn Bhd, Am Investment Services Bhd and Uni Asia Life Assurance Bhd.
Three directors did not seek re-election at the Star AGM yesterday. They were executive director Ng Beng Lye and non-executive directors Tan Foong Luen and Tan Sri Dr Sak Cheng Lum.
Meanwhile, Star Publications yesterday reported a net profit of RM37.8mil or 5.12 sen per share for its first quarter ended March 31, 107% higher compared with RM18.3mil or 2.47 sen per share in the same quarter last year.

The company’s revenue grew 27.15% to RM230.58mil.
“The board expects the performance for the year ending Dec 31, 2010 to be satisfactory,” the company told Bursa Malaysia in notes accompanying its result.
